Easy Ramadan Paper Lanterns Plus Template

Looking for a simple, meaningful craft to celebrate Ramadan and Eid with kids? 🌙✨ This DIY lantern is easy to make, fun to color, and a beautiful way to add a festive touch to your home or classroom. If you are reading Moon’s Ramadan in the classroom this year, this is a printable craft to pair with your storytime!

Supplies

  • Crayons, colored pencils, or markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue (glue stick or liquid glue)
  • Optional
    • Tape or stapler (optional, for attaching the handle)
    • Glitter or metallic colors for extra sparkle

Procedure

Start by cutting out your lantern and handle. Then color your lantern and handle however you like. I use a lot of purple in my book Moon’s Ramadan, so of course, I used a lot of purple crayon for my lantern. Once you’re done decorating, cut out both pieces.

A colorful drawing featuring a smiling moon against a purple sky, decorated with stars and a garland of flags. Two hands, one darker and one lighter skinned, are holding lanterns, with a palm tree in the background. Scissors and crayons are visible on the white table.

Next, fold the lantern paper in half along the marked line. Carefully cut along the parallel lines (through both layers of paper), stopping just before the edge so the strips remain connected. This step gives your lantern its classic 3D look.

Colorful drawing of a smiling moon surrounded by stars and leaves, with scissors and colored paper on a white table.

Unfold the paper and gently curve it into a loop, bringing the short ends together. Glue the ends in place to secure the lantern shape.

A colorful drawing depicting a night scene with a smiling moon, two hands holding lanterns, and decorative banners under a starry sky. The scene has a background featuring palm trees and is surrounded by art supplies like crayons and glue.

Finally, attach the handle using glue, tape, or staples. Hang your finished lantern and let it shine during Ramadan nights or Eid celebrations. 🌟

A handmade paper lantern decorated with colorful drawings sits on a table next to scissors, a green glue stick, and a pile of crayons of various colors, along with a coloring page featuring a moon and hands.
